2017 Camp Alpine Overnight Merit Badge Clinic

Local Area Scouters,

The annual Camp Alpine Merit Badge Clinic, held at Camp Alpine in Alpine, OR, will be held on October 13-14.  We are offering classes in:

  • Plant Science
  • First Aid
  • Nature
  • Geocaching
  • Archery
  • Digital Technology
  • Radio
  • Trail to First Class
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Insect Study
  • Amphibian Study
  • Citizenship in the Nation
  • Metalwork

For 11-year-old LDS scouts, there will be a dinner and fireside on Friday night.  Talk to your leader for details.

There is no cost for your unit to attend the clinic or camp at Alpine on Friday night.  For those that sign up for the Archery class, there will be a $8 fee for supplies.  Metalwork will incur a $10 fee.  Please bring your payment to your merit badge counselor at the camp.

You may register for classes here.  Some classes have a limited class size and will fill up quickly.  Please note carefully on the registration form which classes are all day and which are half day.

2017 Sons of Mosiah

Note (6/10/2017):  Registration for 2017 Sons of Mosiah was due June 10, 2017, and is now closed.  If you wish to be considered for late registration (no guarantees), please have your bishop contact the Stake Young Men president.

Note (5/17/2017): I have added a link below to the medical release form, which must be signed by parents of all youth participants of SOM.  Bishops (or otherwise assigned ward delegate) are responsible for collecting these forms and having them on hand during the event.

The 2017 Sons of Mosiah Encampment will be held at Camp Melakwa July 26-29, 2017.

Benton District Merit Badge Clinic 2/18/2017

The LDS Corvallis, OR Stake is sponsoring a District Merit Badge Clinic on February 18, 2017.

Time: Morning session; 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; afternoon session 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Place: 1205 NW Walnut Blvd., Corvallis, OR (Enter @ East Foyer)
All participants should bring their own sack lunch.

Classes will be offered for the following merit badges: Personal Fitness, Sustainability, First Aid, Rail Road and Public Speaking.  We hope to add Citizenship in World soon.  Stay tuned.

2016 Benton District Overnight Merit Badge Clinic: September 16-17

*Online registration is now closed (9/12/2016).  If you still wish to register, you will need to contact the MB clinic director, Craig Huntsman, at craigdhuntsman@comcast.net.

*A note on fire danger, as of 8/31/2016: As of this time, camp fires are allowed at Camp Alpine in designated fire rings.  If this policy changes, we will note it here.

*Updated class offering, 8/24/2016: Back by popular demand, we have added the Metalwork Merit Badge.  Remember that both Emergency Preparedness and Metalwork are all day classes.  If you sign up for the a.m. session for either of these, please sign up for the respective p.m. session.

2016 Sons of Helaman

SOH begins this Monday, July 18 at 6:30 a.m. at the Stake Center.  It is very important that you arrive on time.  Agenda for Monday morning:

  • 6:30 a.m.: Arrive, pack trucks, get Monday food supply in the gym
  • 6:50 a.m.: Prayer meeting for all adult leaders (including rangers) in YW room
  • 7:00 a.m.: All participants meet in chapel for final instruction

Additional info:

  • Updated as of 7/13/2016:  Driving directions to Dickey Creek TH and schedule for shooting have been updated in group route summaries (PDF), Google Earth Files, and GPX files:
    • Group route summaries (PDF): includes itineraries for all groups (driving directions and hiking) and your scheduled shooting time.  Do not be late for shooting.  We recommend that every adult leader print out a copy of his group’s itinerary and pack it with him.  We will be providing all rangers with both group route itineraries and a professional FS map on Monday morning.
    • Google Earth Files: includes full data base (best for use on your computer) and a simplified version (best for use on mobile apps)
    • GPX files: for use on stand-alone GPS devices
    • README file for map data (there is no requirement to use electronic map data).
  • The food re-supply plan is available here.  All groups will receive their first supply of food Monday morning at the Stake Center.  Groups will subsequently be re-supplied later in the week at either Elk or Dunlap Lake, depending on their route.
  • Online SOH registration (closed)
  • Medical release forms (required to participate; due July 1).  If you already completed a physical for sports, Boy Scouts, or other purposes, you may submit that form instead.
  • Firearm authorization forms (required to participate in shooting portion of SOH; due July 1)
  • SOH info packet (includes equipment list)
  • SOH kick-off slides and updates for leaders

The medical and firearm authorization forms should be remitted to Jason Appah (info is on LDS Tools).  You can send him scans/pictures of these completed documents or hard copies.

Camp Alpine BSA District Merit Badge Clinic, Oct 16-17 2015

All Benton District scouts are invited to attend the District Merit Badge Clinic at Camp Alpine near Alpine, OR on Oct 16-17, 2015.  This event is sponsored by the Corvallis OR LDS Stake.

This year we have 10 great badges being taught plus a Trail to First Class Seminar.  Participants are invited to show up on Friday night to camp, and classes will be held Saturday in the morning and afternoon.
